A Donor Advised Fund, launched in 2020
Where It All Started
The Kaiārahi Trust was launched in March 2020, focused on empowering generous Kiwi individuals and businesses.
The Kaiārahi Trust was set up by Ian Kuperus (founder of The Wilberforce Foundation), David McLay (Barrister and tax, trust and charity law specialist), and Robert Reid (Charity and For Purpose sector specialist).
Kaiarahi in the Maori language means “Navigator” or “Coach”
We established the Kaiārahi Trust to help donors navigate what can be an isolating journey
Financial or legal advisers are welcomed to support their charitably-minded clients as they consider the advantages of a donor-advised fund.
Vision
Our goal at Kaiarahi Trust is simple:
To Enable Generosity.
We do this, by providing a platform for donors to collaborate and effectively impact society
Values
Generosity
We champion donors who are seeking to practice generosity that benefits society.
Donor Focused
We operate as a donor collective. We begin by ensuring we understand the wishes and intentions of the donor. Our commitment to an open dialogue and regular feedback ensures we build systems and processes that make philanthropy enjoyable.
Collaborative
Where possible we offer opportunity for donors to work together for mutual advantage.
Efficiency
We strive to add real and measurable value. We want to do all we can to ensure each donor achieves their goals and their charitable beneficiaries gain maximum advantage.
Inter-Generational
While many donors want to achieve an immediate result we ensure there is opportunity for a donor’s generosity to have a long term inter-generational impact.
Accountable
We obtain independent due diligence advice on each partner charity to ensure clear lines of communication and expectation are maintained.
